About the Swedish Australian Chamber of Commerce
The first known Swede to visit Australia was Daniel Solander, botanist, who sailed into Botany Bay together with Captain Cook. By the end of the 1800's trade was already well established between Sweden and Australia. Among others, the first Ericsson telephone handsets were in use, Gustaf de Laval's cream separator had been introduced in the dairy industry and Transatlantic Shipping Co had begun a regular shipping service between Sweden and Australia.

The Swedish Chamber of Commerce was founded in 1911 in Sydney. Today, the Chamber is a modern, membership funded, networking organisation with around 180 members, both large and small. The Chamber provides a platform for the social interaction between Swedish and Australian business interests in Australia. A close relationship exists between the Chamber, the Swedish Consulates, the Swedish Embassy and also the Swedish Trade Council in Sydney, where the administration office is located.

In 2004, the Chamber established a Young Professionals division, with the aim of attracting young members through offering a number of activities targeted to this group. These activities are offered in addition to the Chambers regular activities. Young Professionals has a steering group consisting of eight members.
The Chamber's Council, which consists of 19 elected and honorary members, meets on a regular basis and The Ambassador of Sweden to Australia is an active member together with representatives from major Swedish companies established in Australia.
